Former Neuralink Engineer Attacked, Sparking Musk & Trump Reactions and Outrage Over Juvenile Crimes

Two 15-year-old youths have been legally charged with armed robbery following an alleged attack targeting Edward "Big Bowls" Corestein, a young software engineer and former intern at Neuralink, who had a notable presence in the Trump administration within the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). According to security reports, Corestein, who left his work at DOGE last June and recently returned to government service at the Social Security Administration to help update its website, was with his girlfriend around 3 AM on Sunday in the Logan Circle area of Washington. At that time, a group of about 10 teenagers approached their car, announcing their intention to steal it. Corestein acted quickly to protect his girlfriend, pushing her into the car, before deciding to confront the group alone. The assailants attacked him and continued assaulting him until police forces arrived at the scene.

Edward Corestein is known as a young software engineer who gained early recognition through his internship at Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk. Later, he moved to work within former President Donald Trump's administration in the "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE), a department created to improve the performance of government services through technology. Despite leaving this position, Corestein returned to the public sector to work on improving the digital infrastructure of the Social Security Administration, which a spokesperson confirmed in a statement to "Wired" magazine.

Reactions from Elon Musk and Donald Trump

The incident attracted the attention of prominent figures, with Elon Musk praising Corestein's courage on Tuesday in a post on his social media platform X, describing him as a "brave man."

For his part, former President Donald Trump politically capitalized on the incident, publishing an infographic showing Corestein bruised on his "Truth Social" platform. Trump accompanied the image with a call for stricter laws and for teenagers over 14 years old to be prosecuted as adults for serious crimes.
