Samsung Unveils Details of its Anticipated Triple-Screen Phone: Price, Specs, and Potential Launch Date

Samsung Unveils Tri-Folding Phone and New Mixed Reality Headset

Samsung hints at its anticipated tri-screen foldable phone during its recent financial results announcement. Following the company's success with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, the South Korean company continues its leadership in the world of foldable smartphones. Samsung confirmed during the call that it is moving forward with the development of its tri-screen foldable phone, which has been the subject of rumors for several months. The company also acknowledged the imminent launch of the mixed reality (XR) headset, known as "Project Moohan," which it is developing in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm. "Project Moohan" is the first device to use Google's new Android XR platform, making it a direct competitor to Apple's Vision Pro. Samsung is expected to release these innovative products later this year.

Official Samsung Statements

The company stated in its financial call: "We will drive sales of our AI-powered premium mobile devices, including our newly launched foldable devices, and aim to lead the market by expanding our ecosystem through innovative form factors such as the upcoming tri-folding device and our first extended reality headset."

Feasibility and Demand Challenges

Last month, reports indicated that a Samsung executive stated the new foldable phone is "ready for launch." The same person told the publication: "We've had a tri-folding phone for a while now, with a complete design and everything. So it's not a new concept for us. What we're discussing is feasibility. When I say feasibility, is there actually a demand for this form factor?"

This is an interesting consideration, as it can be argued that there hasn't been a huge demand for thin phones, yet Samsung launched the slim Galaxy S25 Edge in May, and then adopted this sleek design in the Z Fold 7. But it's probable, as Samsung stated when launching its latest book-style foldable phones, that "seeing is believing," and people might be eager to own a phone that feels more innovative than many other devices currently available on the market.

Specifications and Launch Expectations

Reports indicate that the tri-folding phone will feature a 10-inch OLED screen, a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, and a triple camera system with a 200MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera – just like the Z Fold 7. It may also have a 10MP selfie camera. Rumors suggest it could cost around $3000. It might first launch in China and South Korea before the company decides whether to expand its availability elsewhere.

Similar to thin phones, tri-folding phones are gaining significant attention. Last month, Chinese company Tecno showcased its tri-folding concept, the Phantom Ultimate G Fold. There's also the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, currently available outside the U.S.

CEO Confirmation

At a press conference during the Samsung Unpacked event in July, Roh Tae-moon, acting CEO of Samsung Electronics' Mobile eXperience business, confirmed the company's plans to launch a tri-folding phone by the end of this year. The device has been referred to as "Galaxy G Fold," although Samsung has not confirmed anything regarding this naming.

Conclusion: The Korea Times quoted Roh as saying: "We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its ease of use, but we have not decided on its name. As the product approaches completion, we plan to make a final decision soon."
