Sling TV has launched a new live streaming package known as "Sling Select," specifically designed to meet the needs of viewers looking for economical options in the world of live TV streaming. This package was launched on August 19, 2025, and is available for $19.99 per month, offering 11 diverse channels including major channels like Fox News, FX, FS1, National Geographic, NFL Network, MeTV, Vice, Game Show Network, Heroes & Icons, GRIT, and Lifetime Movie Network.

The features of the new Sling Select package are not limited to live channels; it also provides access to thousands of free movies available for on-demand streaming. The package also allows simultaneous streaming on up to three devices at once, in addition to 50 hours of free storage via cloud DVR service, enhancing the viewing experience and offering great flexibility to users.

In addition to the Sling Select package, Sling TV continues to offer its free, ad-supported streaming (FAST) service, "Sling FreeStream," which provides viewers with over 200 free channels and over 40,000 on-demand titles, offering a free and wide-ranging entertainment option.

Among the most prominent similar services operating on the free ad-supported streaming (FAST) model in the market are Pluto TV, Tubi, The Roku Channel, and Freevee, with the latter currently being integrated into Amazon Prime Video, increasing competition in this sector.

For viewers in certain markets, Sling TV offers the option to add local broadcast stations like ABC, NBC, and Fox for an additional fee. This add-on costs $5 per month if one or two stations are available in the area, or $10 per month for all three stations. However, CBS remains unavailable within Sling's basic packages, but CBS shows can be accessed via Paramount+, and NBC shows via Peacock.

Similar to Sling TV's main packages, Sling Blue and Sling Orange, subscribers can add premium pay-per-view services like HBO Max, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, and STARZ. Various additional channel packages are also available to customize the TV experience, including:

  • Sports Extra – For sports enthusiasts (includes NFL Red Zone, Big Ten Network, FS2, and more).
  • News Extra – For expanded global and local news coverage (includes Newsmax, NewsNation, FOX Business, and more).
  • Entertainment Extra – Features popular entertainment networks (like Paramount Network, CMT, and more).
  • Hollywood Extra – Offers classic blockbusters and Hollywood favorites (includes FXX, FXM, and more).
  • Lifestyle Extra – Covers home, food, and travel content (includes Hallmark Channel, UPtv, and more).

Competitive Positioning and Sling Short-Term Passes

With the introduction of the Sling Select package at $20, Sling TV effectively re-positions itself competitively in the budget streaming market. Traditional Sling Orange and Blue base plans now start at around $40 per month (with a discounted upfront payment option), while the combined Orange & Blue package remains in the low sixties, which is significantly less than cable alternative competitors like YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV.

The Sling Select package faces direct competition in the low-cost streaming market, with Frndly TV standing out at $7 per month with over 50 channels, and Philo at $28 per month offering 70 live channels and 100 free channels, plus a massive library of over 70,000 on-demand titles.

Finally, in an effort to attract more customers, Sling also offers short-term passes to complement the base Sling Orange offering: "Day Pass" for $4.99, "Weekend Pass" for $9.99, and "Week Pass" for $14.99. These passes are designed to appeal to viewers focused on occasional sports or entertainment events who might not otherwise try Sling TV due to the availability of these flexible options.
