Today's Wordle Answer (Game #1513) is...

MINTY.

I had some bad luck today: on my way to getting a five, but I've had my share of good luck recently, so I think things balance out in the long run.

MINTY shouldn't have been particularly difficult for me: WordleBot's average of 3.8 is below average for the game. There are no uncommon or repeated letters, and no words with similar spellings other than MISTY; words like NIFTY, TINNY, and WITTY were more common guesses than that, and all differ by two letters.

So, no real excuses for me: other than the Wordle gods didn't smile on me today.

My problems started before I even began: as my random word generator showed me the word RADII. In truth, it wasn't a complete disaster, as it gave me a yellow 'I'. But it still left 284 options, a much higher number than the 44 the 'Bot' left after its word SLATE.

SLICE should have been a good second guess. WordleBot gave me 92 for my skill, and said it expected to leave 13 solutions - but instead it left 40. A luck score of only seven indicates the story there.

Nevertheless, I had now ruled out most common consonants. R, S, L, and C were ruled out, leaving T and N among the top 10 letters. I included both in PITON, and both turned yellow. The 'I' also turned green - so I was finally making progress.

The problem is I had reached the third guess: and still had five words to choose from. And the worst part is all five words seemed genuinely possible options: TINNY, NIFTY, NIGHT, MINTY, and NINTH.

On the bright side: I realized I could safely play any of the four words, and be sure I wouldn't get worse than a five; the only word that didn't apply was NIGHT, which could have left me with a 50/50 between MINTY and TINNY.

Of the other four words: I decided NINTH was the most likely, knowing Wordle loves words with numbers. Unfortunately for me, I forgot it was a previous Wordle answer – game #597 in February 2023.

So I chose it anyway: and it was clearly wrong. That left MINTY as the only possible solution, so I had to accept a worse-than-average score.

What is Wordle?

If you're on this page: you almost certainly already know what Wordle is, and have been playing it for a while. Even if you haven't played it, you've certainly heard of it by now, as it's the viral word game phenomenon that swept the world in 2022 and is still going strong in 2025.

We have a full guide to the game: on our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a recap, here are the basics.

What is Wordle?

Wordle challenges you: to guess a new five-letter word every day. You get six guesses, and each guess reveals more information. If a letter in your guess is in the answer and in the correct spot, it turns green. If it's in the answer but in the wrong spot, it turns yellow. And if it's not in the answer at all, it turns gray. Simple, right?

It's played online: through the Wordle website or the New York Times games app (iOS / Android), and it's completely free.

Most importantly: the answer is the same for everyone every day, meaning you're competing against the rest of the world, not just yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets every day at midnight local time, giving you a new challenge and a chance to extend your winning streak.

What are Wordle rules?

The rules of Wordle are very straightforward: but with some added surprises.

  • Letters that are in the answer and in the correct spot: turn green.
  • Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong spot: turn yellow.
  • Letters not in the answer: turn gray.
  • Answers are never plural.
  • Letters can appear more than once: so, if your guess includes two of the same letter, both could turn yellow, or both could turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
  • Each guess must be a valid word in the Wordle dictionary: you can't guess ABCDE, for example.
  • You don't have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses: unless you're playing in hard mode.
  • You have six guesses: to solve Wordle.
  • You must complete the daily Wordle: before midnight in your time zone.
  • All answers are taken from Wordle's list: which includes 2,309 solutions. However...
  • Wordle will accept a wider range of words as guesses: approximately 10,000 words. For example, you can guess a plural word like WORDS. It certainly won't be correct (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
  • The New York Times has added some of its own words: that weren't in the original 2,309 solutions list. No doubt more will come in the next few years.
