Ghost of Yōtei: An Overview

The game's protagonist is a new character named Atsu, who seemingly follows in the footsteps of Jin Sakai from the first game, donning the Ghost mask and adopting a gameplay style that combines stealth and action. The story takes place in 1603, and players explore the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, a towering peak located in the heart of Ezo, an area known today as Hokkaido in Japan. The story is loosely based on history but is described as an "original story."

Story and Setting

In Ghost of Yōtei, Atsu seeks revenge against a group called the "Yōtei Six," who murdered her family sixteen years prior. Players will have the freedom to explore the open world, and can set up camps wherever they wish. The six main objectives can be tackled in any order, and there are also additional bounty hunting missions to keep players busy and their pockets full of currency.

Trailers and Showcases

The game was showcased in several trailers, the first revealing the new protagonist Atsu navigating stunning landscapes and eliminating enemies while wearing the Ghost mask. The second trailer set the scene for Atsu's journey, showing her hunting down a group of enemies called the "Yōtei Six." A new trailer for Ghost of Yōtei was also shown during the "Opening Night Live 2025" event, which featured new combat and gameplay.

Combat and Weapons

Extended gameplay footage revealed Atsu traversing beautiful locations, using a katana, smaller daggers, a spear, and even a Kusarigama in combat. The game features various weapons that are more effective against specific enemy types. Atsu has a wolf companion and can even undertake bounty hunting missions in the world. One of the key differences between Ghost of Yōtei and Ghost of Tsushima is the inclusion of firearms, which will be an essential part of Atsu's arsenal.

Multiplayer Mode: Legends

Ghost of Yōtei will receive a multiplayer mode called "Legends," similar to its predecessor, featuring supernatural cooperative missions. This mode is scheduled for release in 2026.

Platform Availability

Currently, Ghost of Yōtei is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, and it is expected to arrive on PC after an initial launch period, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
